Coveting...

I'm not usually an action figure buyer - I'm too picky about the details. But Hot Toys is coming out with a new Christopher Reeve Superman figure that looks amazing! 30 points of articulation, three sets of hands(!), and a Fortress of Solitude stand that lights up. It's incredible. And incredibly expensive - $210 through the Sideshow pre-order site.

Even better? A portion of the proceeds goes to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

With a December shipping date, here's hoping he shows up under the Christmas tree!

Merry Christmas to Me!!!

Eric and I celebrated our Christmas today and THIS is what was waiting under the tree for me!! He truly surprised me, as usual. It covers the whole story of how Superman died and the events following, through his return. The first thing I did when I opened it was flip through to the moment he came back to Lois. ::sigh:: I love that page.

And I love my husband. He indulges me in my obsession. ;D

Yes, she is that much of a fangirl...

The idea for this quilt came about from Emily's Christmas present last year (Superman pillowcases). I knew I needed to make a matching quilt. But I couldn't find any of the fabric she used, so ended up getting a set of sheets. That ended up being better, of course. I'd still like to find some of the fabric, for other projects.

This is the front. I made the patch with the shield from the sheet set pillowcase and sewed it on with a finishing stitch. First time doing that, and I ended up sewing it three times, to get a nice edge. I didn't trim the fabric, so it would fray in the wash. I like the look now, but may trim it off later. I also quilted the detailing on the shield. Don't look too close! LOL I didn't use a walking foot, and I went too fast, so it's a pretty bad job.

These two photos show the quilting. I followed the 'tire tracks' on front, and outlined the smaller shields in the line. All four are outlined. You can also see the backside of the big patch. The binding was a lucky find at Hancock Fabrics - 50% off. And I guessed at how much I'd need, buying the last three packets they had and I used most of it. Lucky. And I used a dark blue thread on the top, and a red in the bobbin. I love how it looks.

I'm not sure what the final measurements are. I started with twin sheets, trimmed down the fitted one, and then trimmed again when I had the fabric-batting-fabric sandwich laid out. It's going to be the perfect chair quilt, I think. Also, I'll now have a matched set for retreat weekends (the first one being this coming weekend). :D

ETA: Sally's comment reminded me I didn't get a shot of the 'overnight trifecta.' So, here it is. Emily's pillowcase is on the right, and the duffle bag is the one I discovered this summer. It went on sale, and it's even monogrammed!

Jackpot, baby!!!

ALL the movies (including 2-disc Superman Returns!!!), two documentary discs, and Bryan Singer's video journals he made during filming. This is way better than I expected. And they did a great job on the designs; very striking.

This one will not be on my wish list this year. Because I can't possibly wait until Christmas for this. :D

Bad Blogger...

Yikes, I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted last! Lots has been going on and I could go on and on, so here are some bullet points, to catch me up:

Wedding - beautiful bride, beautiful day; lots of photos to prove it :) and my black and whites turned out great! woo!

CSI premiere - Cirque du Soleil: awesome!; Grissom/Sara romance: bad bad bad idea; Nick's gonna feel really really guilty when he finds out what happened to Catherine; to be continued???: what?

WDW - short story, shorter: won plane tickets, going w/M&D between Xmas and New Year's, CAN'T WAIT!!!

Superman Returns - on DVD November 28 and I'm on the pre-order notify list - woo!!

Abyss, the novelization - I finally found a copy, on Amazon; I read this shortly before seeing the movie in theaters and it made the movie so much better; I've been looking for it for years

Allergy season - It used to be this bad in August, but now September/October is the worst time for me.

Handmade holidays - Yep, I'm crazy. 4 quilts are in the works, along with multiple projects for friends and family. If anyone has requests, speak up now! (yes, I'm serious)

CKU - Keeping our fingers crossed, it looks to be late-April 2007, in Detroit. Hotel is reserved already, and we're just waiting on the official announcement from Creating Keepsakes. I'm looking forward to finding out the new format.

Birthday packages - I finally got my niece's box out the door, I even made her a card. :) Since it was mostly clothes, I lined the bottom of a box with plastic, then tissue papers, then a wrapped gift with the dress I found in it, then more tissue papers, then a layer of clothes, tied in sets with ribbon, then more tissue papers, another layer of clothes, more tissue papers, yet another layer of clothes, more tissue paper, then a personalized canvas bag with art supplies in it, and topped it all off with a piece of wrapping paper cut and folded to fit just inside the box with a bow and the card. It looked really really cute, and I wish I could have shot a cut-away of what it looked like inside the box. Like cake layers, I'd think. :D I'll post a photo of the top when I get a chance.

Mom's was the other package I made. Her gift was a handmade bracelet from elisalou.com and it wasn't going to be on time, so I printed a photo of it and put it in a little box by Jolee's. I added ribbon and lace around the boxtop, and a bird dimensional sticker on top. The card I made matched and together they looked really cute. I'll post photos of those later, too.

Wee Wonderfuls Make-a-long story - So cute, and an inspired idea; I'm keeping this for the future small children in my life.

JC's new song - 'Until Yesterday' is available for listening at the AOL New Music site; I love it!; the new album is "coming soon" - not soon enough!

That's it, I think. I'm sure there's stuff I forgot. I'll try and keep up posting now that wedding madness is over. :D

ATCs (Muse Swappers, beware of spoilers!)

This is the set of ATCs (Artist Trading Card) I made for a swap at ScrapMuse. Since the movie has been my focus during the timeframe we set up, I decided to make that the theme. I made 8 total - 7 to swap, one for me to keep. (click on all the photos to see larger versions) Scroll down for all the gory details on how I made them.

The design really came together over the weekend. I knew I wanted to use an image of the poster I bought to commemorate this summer, as well as the new shield design. I also wanted to use the ATC circle seal (Catslife Press) on the back. That part kind of just fell together when I put all the elements down in the space. Then I had this amazing handmade-looking paper (the red corner piece) that echoes the colors in his cape.

For the front, I knew I wanted to use a piece of stationary from the free downloads available at the official movie site. The one I chose is Clark Kent's personalized stationary. Click on the picture to see it up close. It's on Daily Planet letterhead! Love the details! (I added Clark's note to Lois) Anyway, I was at work on Saturday, when I saw mini file folders and realized it would be the perfect added detail. I even added a coffee cup stain (with a Zig marker cap).

Then I got the idea for a newspaper article background (which I retyped from one I found on the Pepsi promo web site) and had another flash of what Lois' reaction would be to finding Clark gone again. The thought bubble is printed on vellum, then embossed because I didn't want to wait for it to dry overnight.

Yes!!!

Woo! Superman Returns will still be showing for at least another week! I've been watching the online listings, and they stopped at tomorrow's showings. But I just checked, and it will still be there through next Thursday at least. Daytime showings, though. So I'm going to try and see it Sunday afternoon, I think.
