Hopefully I'm not ruining the surprise for anyone (it was very hard to wait to post this, until everyone got theirs!) These are the valentines I sent out this week:
When I saw the new lovey Doodlebug products, I immediately wanted to use them for valentines. At least for the kids. Then I got the idea for the patchwork heart and spent some time cutting several sets of heart papers, including the Doodlebug. Being math-challenged, I didn't count right and ended up with way more hearts than I needed and plenty of the Doodlebug to use them for everything. And the whole thing snowballed.
The patchworked hearts looked plain on white cardstock, so I traced and scanned and cut out bigger black hearts to layer them on. Then I ran over to Michaels for sequins and silver cording. Almost bought red, but remembered there's no red in the Doodlebug line. Just pink. Stuck with silver, because it is part of the line. And found tiny rhinestones for accent. Then I had to sort out my silver brads: enough hearts? no. round is plain. square - perfect! And now the leftovers are all sorted into my new Cropper Hopper embellishment case. Sweet.
Assemblage went very easy, because after I got the first black heart cut out, I could picture in my head how it would turn out. Love that. And luckily, I started the whole process early enough in the day and had C.S.I. on the DVD to listen to, so I had plenty of time to cruise on autopilot before I started to get tired. Love that even more.
The end result turned out great, I think, but SO not my usual style. I generally hate pink and am not huge on sparkly stuff. Except in scrapbooking/card-making, then I love using Stickles on everything. LOL
Happy Valentine's Day!
